There's a lot of great music out lately. Starting with Coldplay's Viva La Vida, an absolutely brilliant album. I bought the Japanese release about a week ago and have been listening to it non-stop. After one listen I was hooked.
I can hear shades of Brian Eno production similar to U2's Unforgettable Fire album. If there's one album you need to buy this year, this is it!
Second is Your Vegas' A Town and Two Cities, a brilliant debut that rivals the Coldplay disc. They are pretty closely tied for best album of the
year in my book. Third is Delays' "Everything's the Rush". Not quite as strong as their last effort, and one song (sung by the brother of the
lead singer) should actually have been a b-side on a single. It's a bit more mainstream than their last disc, but it's growing on me.
I recommend all three. It's going to be a great summer!
PS: It looks like Simple Minds original lineup is heading into the recording studio this fall. The last time they recorded anything was
during the Sister Feelings Call era. Great news! Hppefully they'll get back some of the magic that made them great.

Well it's been a long time since I've updated this news blog, and since a lot has happened in my life over the past 9 months, I guess now is as good a time as ever to write about what's been going on with I SATELLITE.
Back in October I announced that a new I SATELLITE album was in the works. I had enough demo tracks for an album, and would begin working on
sequencing and recording them as final tracks. Then disaster struck. My only reverb died. My #2 delay died. My Prophet died (again). My
Multimoog died. All within one week of the announcement. And then I pulled a muscle in my back while selling my CS-80 - and due to my 3 hour commute to work and back each day the pain wouldn't subside. So I sent the synths to the tech, and ordered a new reverb. It was too cheap and sounded horrible. So I bought another vintage 224x reverb. Then the new 224x broke down on the day I got it. And the guy who was working on my first one decided to put his business on hold until January 2008 (it's still on hold as of May 2008. Meanwhile, the auto industry in Detroit was tanking (the only job you can really get there is in the auto industry), home prices were falling fast, and gas prices were increasing exponentially. And my job wasn't getting easier or any closer, and by February, after 6 months of therapy, my back pain was still keeping me up most of the night. I decided a change was needed in my life - something drastic and as soon as possible. I needed out of Detroit. I needed to get back to somewhere where I could be inspired again, where I could settle down and have some free time to work on music - where I wasn't exhausted from a 70 hour work week. Where my commute was under 20 minutes, not 3 hours of aggressive Detroit highway traffic.
So in February of this year I accepted a job back on the west side of Michigan, in the beautiful rolling hills of Forest Hills. It's very peaceful over here, the people are generally a lot nicer and kinder compared to Detroit, and my commute is under 10 minutes each way. And the best thing of all is that my back pain subsided within 2 weeks of quitting my previous job. Once things settle down I'll have much more free time to work on music, to be inspired, and to create the kind of album I've really wanted to for the past 5 years. I've been here since mid-February, gradually setting up my studio in a much better, dedicated finished space than I've ever had before, with a window view over an acre of trees and forest. It's a beautiful setting and I feel really blessed to have such a wonderful studio space. I bought another 224 reverb that actually works!!! And I got my Multimoog back from the tech. A Source joined the stable of synths, and the studio setup is starting to come together just as I'd hoped it would. My family will join me at the end of the month, and things will start to settle down by the end of July. My studio should be completely set up by mid-June and I'll begin working on tracks sometime this summer.
So for those of you who have been waiting for over 5 years for I SATELLITE to put out another album, the good news is that all of the puzzle pieces are falling into place to allow that to happen. I'm confident that with the extra free time and peaceful surroundings the inspiration will come, and with that will come a new I SATELLITE album, which will hopefully be completed by the end of this year. It's likely that an EP or vinyl 7" will precede the album. So thanks for being patient, and keep thinking and hoping for good things!
